About Us

Lowton Stud was established in 2020 by showjumping rider Alex Bratt and her family.

Originally from Staffordshire before running a showjumping and sales stable in Whitchurch, Shropshire Alex has a wealth of experience in producing showjumping horses for sport and sale.

Having worked with showjumpers in the UK, and a season in Ireland she has produced many horses from their first show to becoming established at higher levels.

Alex has a BSc (Hons) degree in Equine form the University of Wolverhampton and has worked in several top showjumping yards before setting up her own business in Whitchurch in 2010.

In 2012 Alex had a contract to provide 4 horses for the Modern Pentathlon at the London Olympic Games which was a great experience.

In 2015 Alex was selected with her horse Gitta for the Lottery Funded 'Step up to Gold' Programme with British Showjumping.

Shortly afterwards she relocated to Normandy, France to expand her business and ran her stables from Hodeng Hodenger in the department of Seine Maritime in Upper Normandy.

After 4 years of operating a stud farm in Normandy breeding showjumpers Alex relocated back to the UK to concentrate on training and competing whilst continuing to operate a smaller stud operation aimed at breeding International level showjumpers for the future.

Following a lengthy search and a lot of luck the perfect place was found in the village of Bondleigh just outside of the town of North Tawton in beautiful Devon. In a former life the property was the world renowned 'Maximillian Stud' but had sadly not been utilised to the best of it's potential in recent years.

Throughout 2020 - 2022 Alex and her family undertook the mammoth task of renovating the Equestrian Centre and with a lot of love, blood, sweat and tears their vision started to become a reality.

Thus Lowton Stud was born.
In March 2023 Lowton Stud relocated to beautiful Shropshire following the sale of the Devon property in a bid to be more centrally located for competitions.
The home of Lowton Stud is now Oswestry Equestrian Centre at Carreg Y Big Farm in Selattyn just outside of Oswestry in Shropshire. It's a great location for shows with Kelsall Hill, South View and Aintree all within an hour and good access to the M54 and M6 for travelling South. It's an exciting new chapter in the progression of Lowton Stud. The property has great potential and will be renovated to the highest standard to provide a training centre for our horses.
